The Home-Coming

As I enter my home
After a long day of work
My kids come running to me in glee
After the hugs and kisses
I see the couch inviting me

Then I see
Floor littered with toys and crayons
Clothes lying all around
Piled up dishes in the sink
All staring back at me

Thus I get to work
Cleaning, sweeping, mopping
Dinner and dishes
Along with the kids homework in between

The couch now long forgotten
In bed I lie
As sleep invades me

How do you unwind after a demanding day?

The Mother in Law

She keeps pushing my buttons and testing my limits I cant take it anymore, who does she think she is?

The cries of the baby invaded her thoughts bringing her back to reality. By the time she got to the baby, her mother in law was already holding her and both smiling at each other during the diaper change.

The scene shifted something inside her and she thought to herself, afterall she is not that bad, she takes care of the baby and household chores without complaining and also makes an extra cup of tea for me.

Surely we lock horns more often but instead of getting annoyed why don’t I try to accept her as it is, with all her faults and goodness, ignore the barbed comments and maybe she could also accept me someday!

With a firm resolution in her mind she set out to put it to work.

The knife

Wobbling on her feet she reached the door

She did not think this could have happened to her

She had trusted him

But his friends were monsters and he was their team leader

How dare they touch her like public property ?

The knife in her hand..dripping with blood

Was proof that she would never ever lose her dignity.

What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

First to rise and last to bed

One wonders what does she do in between?

Her time is just spent in doing small nothings

Just cooking and cleaning and laundry

And rest of the day…what does she do?

She is the one who ensures meals are served on time 3 times a day and snacks in between

She is the one who ensures your tiffin is ready before you

She ensures that all missing items are found

She ensures that kids are well taken care of

Fed,nourished,draped,schooled and cultured

And yet her time is spent in doing small nothings

The house is spic and span not a spot escapes her eye

Scrubbed with all her might never to be found

She is the one who ensures that the curtains are washed and bedsheets changed

She will be after your life to repair the leaking faucet or replace the burnt fuse

You may argue it’s irritating but that is what makes your house comfortable

To dine, relax and unwind

Her home is her sanctuary, her safe space

She decorates and nourishes it and all its members with untiring efficiency and love

It is her touch that makes a house a home

No activities she can afford to skip

As procrastination adds to her next days pile of work heap

Her timetable is set as she goes about her day with zest

From dawn to dusk..Doing small nothings…

The Feminine

Being a woman.

I think that a woman is a force that holds the fate of the world in her hands.

Be it Mata Sita from Ramayana or Draupadi from Mahabharata, wars have been fought to protect her honour and lives slain to evenge her.

She is the binding energy residing in families. It is her sacrifice,  love and devotion that endures separation from her parents and adjusting in an unknown environment.

However, if she decides to ravage she is a force impossible to contend with. Steadfast, determined and unstoppable untill devastation is achieved.

Hence rightly described as shakti in the form of Sati and Kali in her extreme form… she resides in us, with us, amongst us making life warm, tolerable and manageable.
